The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs, live cuts, solo material, demos, and much more. By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined. There has been quite a bit of hype about the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. But that wasn’t the only important project the group worked on in 1967. While the Magical Mystery Tour film was initially panned by critics and fans alike, the music created for the film, as well as the other tracks from ’67 that filled out the original American LP release, stands alongside Pepper as a companion to the much lauded album and a snapshot of the Beatles psychedelic leanings that year.

The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs, live cuts, solo material, demos, and much more. By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined. This show's going to put you in the control room with our first episode to feature control room monitor mixes. You might ask "What are control room monitor mixes?" They are recordings made while an artist is listening back to rough mixes of tracks that they've recorded. Often they include the artists discussing the song and arrangement and might even feature a possible harmony idea or instrumental part sung of played over the mix. The interesting thing about these particular mixes is that the songs are frequently at a stage where the final elements heard on the released mix are either not recorded yet, or mixed out while the artist and producer fine-tune different parts of the song.

The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs, live cuts, solo material, demos, and much more. By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined. To celebrate the release of my latest book, The Steely Dan FAQ: All That’s Left to Know About This Elusive Band, I’m going to stretch out a bit with this show focusing on the music of one of my favorite bands, other than the Beatles. While Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, nor other original Dan members Denny Dias, or Jim Hodder, ever worked with any of the Beatles as solo artists, guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter played on Ringo Starr’s 1992 release Time Takes Time on the tracks “All in the Name of Love” and “Runaways,” both produced by Phil Ramone. In 1985 Ramone produced McCartney’s “Spies Like Us,” and worked with him on a number of tracks in ’86 and ’87 that were eventually released as B-sides, as extras on the Japanese 2CD release of Flowers in The Dirt, and on bootlegs. He also produced Julian Lennon’s debut album Valotte as well as the follow up The Secret Value of Daydreaming. There is also another strong connection between the two bands: a number of the most in-demand session musicians contributed to albums by Steely Dan and the former members of the Beatles.

We’re going to pay tribute to the founder of the Beatles with our eighth show to showcase the talents of Lennon and focus on something that Lennon was never satisfied with, his voice. Although many believe that he has one of the finest voices in rock and roll music, he was even voted fifth best singer of all time in Rolling Stone’s 2010 poll behind Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin, he never liked his own voice. Although polls like that are often arbitrary (McCartney showed up at number eleven) most Beatles fans would disagree with Lennon’s self-deprecation.
